About me:

I am currently a student at the University of South Alabama and I am working towards earning my English Education degree. I hope to become one of the best teachers in the country. I have always loved teaching and can remember teaching my younger sibling and my younger cousins how to do math, how to write, and how to read. I truly believe that it will be my job as a teacher to encourage my students and to show them that they are capable of anything.

Life Long Learner!

I believe that in order to be a teacher you must be a life long learner. I will use my mother for example. She has been a teacher for ten years and before that she worked in daycares. Our house is full of books because my mother and I love to read. My mother is forever on the computer researching new materials for her class. I hope to one day be like my mother in the aspect that I hope to never lose my passion for learner. Plus, how am I to expect my students to learn when I myself am unwilling to continue to learn all I can about the world around me?

Fairness

I believe that I will be a fair teacher in that I won't play favorites and I won't play politics. If the student can't pass then the student can't pass. I will not send a student on when he or she can not pass my course because it would not be fair to my other students who worked hard to get their grade. I will also listen to my students when they are having disagreements rather than just tell them both to go sit down. I will never not allow a student to answer a question. All my students will get a fair shot because their names are going on sticks and in a container and I will call their names out when I draw them.

How I will use the technology

The technology I would like to use most in my classroom would be Blogger. I believe that this website will be most beneficial to my class because it will help improve their writing skills and communication skills. I would also love to use Skype to talk to classrooms around the country and the world about different things we are learning in class. I believe if we were reading a book based in Japan for instance, my students would benefit from Skyping, or e-mailing back and forth, students from Japan. I would also love to use a SMARTBoard. This would be very useful for teaching my students the different parts of speech and the different parts of a sentence. I would also love for my students to have classroom laptops so that they could get on their blogger during a specified time and free write (type), it is very important for the creative process. This would also be helpful because some students won't have the opportunity or good fortune to own a computer at home.

Technology!

I believe that technology should be used as a tool in the classroom and not as a crutch. I will use several websites in my classroom to help my students, timetoast, voicethread, voocaroo, iPods, iTunes, SmartBoard, etc., but only as an aid to my classroom. I vow to not rely on computers to teach my students how to write or analyze poetry and papers. I believe that technology will be a wonderful help in my classroom. I believe my students will get a well rounded education in my classroom as far as technology goes. I fully plan on use blogger if nothing else in my classroom. Being an English teacher, I fully believe this website will most definitely help my students to become better writers.

Equality among my Students...

I believe that every student is an equal and has an equal chance to succeed. With that being said I know that some students will believe that they are worth nothing and will not try. I believe it is my job to never give up on these students and to show them that they can succeed! I will never pass a student if I believe they are not ready to go on in their studies. I believe this to be cruel to the students and to be robbing them of an education. It is my job as a teacher to show them the way to education. If I were to just pass every student because I could what kind of teacher would I be? I also believe it is my job as a teacher to build my students up and to NEVER tear them down. Children and teenagers are at vulnerable ages and I can promise you no matter how popular they seem, these students have somebody tearing them down, whether it be other students or people outside the school there is always someone there. If a teacher were to add on top of those where else does the student have to turn? I will not be the cause of a child's depression. I will play no favorites and everyone will be equal in my class. No teasing, no harassing, or anything of that nature will be tolerated in my class!

My Dream

I want to be a teacher so bad I can taste it! I have always loved seeing the look on a student's face when he or she has the epiphany that he or she finally grasps what I am teaching them. I also now that teaching is one of the most influential (and underpaid) jobs in the world. Think about it for a minute, all of you reading this blog have had at least one teacher make a difference in your life, good or bad, he or she made a difference! I want to shape young minds to think for themselves and to think outside of the box most teachers want to put them in. I'm still learning how to do that but I can't wait! I volunteer at a local middle school right now and even though I find it challenging at times, I absolutely adore it and can't wait till I get a classroom of my own!
